About Me

I have come into 2012 with a strong desire to be more healthy and reduce my weight to something more acceptable for a man of my age and height. On the 1st of Jan 2012 at the age of 45 and height of 6ft 2in, I weighed in at 18st 2lbs (that's 256 lbs or 116kg). I have a pretty large frame and have always been able to carry a bit of excess baggage but I think its time to do something about it for my health and energy levels more than anything else. The experts suggest that for a man of my height and age I should be about 13.5 st but I have set myself a target of 15 st (210lbs or 95kg) - thats a planned loss of around 3 st (46lbs or 20kg) This BLOG is a record of my attempt to achieve this goal and I have made it public to help keep me motivated and on track. If you have any comments, thoughts or ideas and suggestions please feel free to leave me a message..

Spritepost 15

Now I have ridden 2 trials on the Sprite as shakedown tests, the list of things that need to be done has been compiled and I have left the bike with my Dad along with my wish list of tasks as follows;

  • The carb manifold needs sleeving down to 26mm as it has quite a large bore and reducing the size should provide a better fuel/air mix to give a better bottom end power
  • The carb sits at quite an angle of lean forwards, this needs adapting to move it more upright
  • The clutch is not as light as I would like, so some work needs to be done to address this - it could be as simple as removing 3 of the clutch springs without affecting the perfomance of the clutch
  • The rear of the primary chain case is leaking at the seal so this will need some silicone to seal the leak
  • Now we know that the exhaust is working ok, the 1st one can be used as a pattern and a final one can be made from stainless steel and welded up to replace the 1st attempt.
  • The bike seems to run just as quietly without the rear silencer, so it will be removed and a bracket made to secure the back of the pipe to a fixing point somewhere around the top shock mount.
  • The seat needs cutting down to make it a little narrower, shorter and thinner with harder foam
  • Finally, from a cosmetic point, the rear frame loop needs re-bending to lift the rear mudguard higher and provide more clearance at the rear wheel

I will post more photos of the finished article when complete.
